No Sky, No Stars

RP Excerpt:

The Corcel finally turned its gaze back on the woman in front of it, and something shifted. The aggression melted into uncertainty, and its gaze softened to one with more understanding behind it. There was still fear behind his voice when he finally spoke, but it was softer—uncertain and scared rather than angry.

_{“...Tris?”}

The tension snapped, and he shivered everywhere, feeling drained and lost, like coming out of the dark without knowing how long it had been.

Tristine's heavy sigh of relief turned into more of a quiet groan, and she rested her head against his for a moment. Her chest ached all the more fiercely as the adrenaline started to subside, but all things considered…

It could have been much worse.

“We’re okay,” she murmured, almost more to herself than to him. “It’s over now.”

Tiago’s shivering quavered into his voice, and he took the contact between Tristine and Alma with grateful relief. He pulled one forehoof out, and curled himself around Tristine as best he could, wishing he didn’t have to deal with his sybal at all, still shaking, and trying to keep her from seeing his quiet, relieved sobbing by bending his head over her shoulder.

_{“T-thank you … it’s … over … I’m … thank you … I’m sorry, I’m … sorry.”}

In which they catch the bad guys, but nobody has a good time. It was also fun to try and illustrate that unique Sybalian feel when you want to go in for a smooch but your boyfriend is a horse right now... (Update: "Screw it, I'mma kiss him anyway")
